Kiki Herfert, 1942-2012
Past board member and friend Kiki Ann Her-
fert passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012.
A Trustee for the GPHS from 2004 through 2009,
Kiki was a passionate historian and a tremendous
asset to GPHS. A huge supporter of Grosse Pointe
Park, she helped organize the
View of Fairview
tours
with friend Nick Sinacori. “Kiki’s passing has left a
void with respect to a liaison to Grosse Pointe Park
and she was very important in organizing and pro-
moting
View of Fairview”
says Sinacori. She wrote a
paper at Wayne State University called
A History of the Growth and Development of
Grosse Pointe Park which is a testimony to Kiki’s
knowledge and passion of local history. Although
we won’t see her walk through the doors of the
Resource Center, Kiki’s love of history will live in
the heart of the GPHS.

Izzy’s Second Saturdays Recap
After one of Michigan’s warmest winters on
record, Ian Plansker proudly displays a snowman he
was able to build using the items made at Izzy’s Second
Saturday event held in January called “Snowman Kit.”
Each kit contained a plastic hat, a fleece scarf that the
children cut the fringe on and Easter eggs for buttons.
The children molded charcoal, carrots and pipes out of
Fimo clay which was then baked in the oven for about
30 minutes to harden. All the contents are stored in
the hat for re-use.
On March 10th, children came to the “Sew and Stuff your very own Polar Bear”
event at the Provencal-Weir House.
Each child traced and cut the bear
template and sewed their polar
bears as they stuffed them. Here the
children proudly show off their
finished products!

Success! We melted white chocolate, hammered
candy canes and mixed them together in a bowl.
Then we poured the mixture into Christmas molds
to cool. Of course we had to have a taste test.
Mmmm. Dee-lish. Then we put them in a Christmas
bag and adorned them with a bell.
