Support GPHS

Grosse Pointe history is ongoing; our collections continue to grow. Please help the volunteers and staff of the Grosse Pointe Historical Society with our core mission: sharing the stories of Historic Grosse Pointe.

We do not receive public funding. We depend on the contributions and support of donors to preserve and share invaluable resources for homeowners, school curriculum, student studies, newspaper stories, genealogical research, authors, lectures, essays, books, real estate agents, videos, podcasts, and more.

Donations

A gift to GPHS is a great way to honor or remember the special people in your life. A donation makes a thoughtful gift for any occasion. Keep in mind birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Day, and more!

Note: If you are making a gift in Honor or Memory using the online form, be sure to supply a name and address appropriate fields so we send notification of your thoughtful gift.

If you prefer, make your donation using this printable form.

Put History on Auto Pilot

Recurring donations are a great benefit to nonprofits because they provide dependable ongoing income. Simply let us know the amount, frequency and credit card information here, and we’ll take it from there and provide regular acknowledgements.

Advise your DAF to designate GPHS

As a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization, the Grosse Pointe Historical Society is an appropriate beneficiary for donations from Donor-Advised Funds.

Support GPHS when you shop

Kroger will donate a portion of the sale price of your purchases to GPHS each time you buy at no additional cost to you!

Feed your stomach and your soul

Choose The Grosse Pointe Historical Society as your preferred charity for the “Kroger Rewards” program. Here is information about registration.

Your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) can provide a maximum benefit to GPHS

In a normal situation, an RMD distribution goes towards taxable income. By using charitable donations, individuals can avoid receiving funds subject to tax.

Special Opportunities for Support

From educational programs and exhibits to capital investments, there are many opportunities to further our program and secure our future. Read about Special Opportunities for Support.

Leave A Legacy

The important work of the GPHS is supported mainly by private contributions from individuals, and foundations. Contributions are essential to our operation. Future historians will benefit tremendously from these thoughtful gifts to continue to preserve our heritage.

Minimize taxes

A gift to Grosse Pointe history can be shrewd as well as philanthropic! Consider a gift which can serve as a tax planning tool, as well.

Gifts of appreciated capital assets

When individuals donate appreciated capital assets, they can avoid paying capital gains tax and reduce taxable Required Minimum Distributions. Rather than donating cash, if individuals donate appreciated securities, they do not have to pay the tax on the gains and still receive the benefit of the fair market value of the donation because this offsets the RMD, and therefore the tax liability associated with the distribution. Please contact the office for assistance on donations of appreciated assets.

Charitable Remainder Trust

A charitable remainder trust allows a trustor to make contributions, be eligible for a tax deduction, and donate a portion of the assets. Please contact development@gphistorical.org.

Remember us in your Will

Add this simple language to your estate plans.

"I ______________________ give, devise and bequeath the sum of $____________ (or_________ % percent) of my estate, as finally determined for estate tax purposes, to the Grosse Pointe Historical Society (GPHS), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization located in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, to be used in furtherance of its charitable purposes."

Endowment at the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan (CFSEM)

CFSEM is dedicated to helping nonprofit partners grow endowment assets. Endowment provides a source of ongoing support and helps ensure stability in uncertain times. An endowment also provides a place where donors can establish lasting legacies with their support. If you would like to make a donation to The Grosse Pointe Historical Society Endowment, you can send a check payable to: Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, 333 W. Fort Street, Suite 2010 Detroit, MI 48226. Include "GP Historical Society Endowment" in the memo line of your check. If you prefer, donate online.

If you would like to leave a restricted gift or would like to discuss other gift planning ideas, please contact the GPHS office.
