Grosse Pointe Historical Society annual appeal

Drive, run, bicycle, or walk to the GPHS Campus on Kercheval—a lot has happened in 2023.

For 78 years the vision and support of generous donors have inspired our work. Your gifts make it possible for GPHS to collect and protect the artifacts of Grosse Pointe’s history!

Highlights of 2023 include:

  • Stored collections moved to the Grosse Pointe History Center with an archival expert on staff.
  • Provencal-Weir House reopening, major repairs and improvements, paving and landscaping between the house and the Log Cabin.
  • The Vintage Store in collaboration with Fox Creek Questers.
  • One-Room School House programs back in session.
  • Exhibits, programs, displays and events at the Grosse Pointe History Center.

GPHS operations are NOT funded by taxes and endowments.
80% of our budget each year comes from individual donors and organizations, membership dues, and revenue from events and programs. We cannot exist without YOUR support!

There is urgency to our work: many of the collections are on paper, decades—or even more than a century—old. We are digitizing items in the archives, but need to move faster and make more available to the community.

Looking ahead to 2024, we are planning:

  • Exhibits: Grosse Pointe Pets, Eastland, Name this Face, and more.
  • Volunteer opportunities for most any interest and schedule.
  • Collections and archives work.
  • Community and civic organizations collaborations.
  • Dr. Frank E. Bicknell Lecture Series.
  • One-Room Schoolhouse classes.
  • Member events and benefits including “Aperitifs with the Archivist”.
  • Rental opportunities.

Please help today with a donation to help the volunteers and staff of GPHS accomplish our core mission: preserving, sharing, and educating about the history of our communities.

Gratefully,
